Today, we had a very quick clean up of Brownie the Town Dog’s grave in Riverfront Park in historic downtown Daytona Beach, FL.
We filled one bag of trash, which is much better than the four we filled last time. We were impeded from getting every bit of trash by a homeless man who was sleeping on Brownie’s bench. But we got most of it and we weeded the grave site and covered everything with 3 bags of fresh pine bark mulch!
The homeless gentleman was friendly enough, but Brownie’s bench and the bushes behind it need to be redesigned to make this type of thing less likely to happen. You can’t see it in the pic below, but we trimmed the topiary, so it looks like a dog again.
The awesome Suanne Kimmel of Eco Skin Pro and her dog Gizmo did most of the work picking up trash and spreading mulch. They had most of the work done by the time I finished taking photos! Thank you, Suanne and Gizmo!
The woman below was trimming dead leaves off the rose bushes in the garden when we arrived. I asked her if I could take her picture and she was reluctant. I asked if she was homeless and she said yes. Her name is Vicky and she said she used to work in a plant nursery. I think it’s awesome that she is trying to make the park a better place. Much better than just sleeping on benches! Plus, she seemed to get a lot of joy from trimming the bushes. Thank you, Vicky!
Our next clean up will be in two weeks on Sunday, August 20th at 10 am. Please join us!
